The Church of Starry Wisdom.

The Church of Starry Wisdom.

Starry Wisdom Church aka Starry Wisdom Sect or Church of Starry Wisdom, is a religious group.

The Illuminatus! Trilogy[]

Concepcion Galore described it as a church. It is located in Santa Isobelon at Tequilla y Mota Street, what used to be Lumumba Street, but was Franco Street when I she was a girl.

Galore told Fission Chips (agent 00005) it was a "funny" church. She said that, when she worked in the telegraph office, she frequently saw their telegrams. They were all in code and never were to another church. Instead, the telegrams were always to banks all over Europe and through North and South America. Chips immediately became convinced they were a front for BUGGER.

It was reported that Lillibridge the reporter and Blake the painter had both died investigating the sect.

Chips did not find the Starry Wisdom Church to be a proper ecclesiastical shop by any means. He found the architecture a shade too Gothic, the stained-glass windows a bit suggestive. The altar did not feature a crucifix, but a design that he found more than suggestive.

Chips thought the pews seemed designed for reptiles, although he did believe that a church should be uncomfortable as that was "good for the soul." The stained glass windows featured Saint Toad and a shoggoth.

The book upon the pulpit wasn't a Bible, but a book that spoke of Yog Sothoth, the Necronomicon,

The altar was made of marble, and had something on it similar to rust (possibly blood).

Lovecraft[]

Starry Wisdom was borrowed from the works of H.P. Lovecraft. There, the Church of Starry Wisdom, or Starry Wisdom Cult, worships Nyarlathotep in his aspect as the Haunter of the Dark. It was founded in the mid 19th Century by Professor Enoch Bowen, a renowned archeologist and occultist. The design on the altar mentioned in the trilogy was likely Lovecraft's Shining Trapezohedron which was used to summon the Haunter of the Dark. The being demanded sacrifices in exchanged for unlimited knowledge. [citation needed]

Popular culture[]

The Church of Starry Wisdom is also the name of a musical group. They use a form of the triangle in a circle symbol commonly associated with the church, and some of their songs deal with themes related to Lovecraft's writings and the trilogy. [citation needed]
