Judge Caligula X. Bushman is the toughest judge and 'shining ornament of the Chicago judiciary' known for his King Kong scowl.

After being unknowingly dosed with AUM by Joe Malik and Simon Moon, he turns into a homo neophilus, thinks straight, abandons law, and takes up mathematics.

• His name is a play on several subjects:
  • One possible source is the silent movie actor Francis X. Bushman.
  • Another is the gorilla named Bushman, who was the most popular animal ever at Chicago's Lincoln Park Zoo. He was preserved via Taxidermy upon his death and is now in the Field Museum of Natural History.
  • Caligula, the third roman emperor, whose formal name was Gaius Iulius. He was a titular character of a an erotic historical drama film starring Malcolm McDowell.
• The character is a lampoon of Judge Julius Hoffman, who tried the Chicago Seven in 1969. Abbie Hoffmann (one of the defendants) suggested the judge try LSD at the end of the trial.
